The Shawnee Muskie Hunters, in conjunction with the University of Illinois Extension office in Murphysboro, the Jackson County 4-H, and the Illinois DNR, sponsored the annual Kid’s Free Fishing Day on August 29th at Murphysboro State Park. John West of the Illinois DNR started the day with a fishing and boating safety seminar and a few fishing tips. The kids caught over 80 fish over a 2 hour period. Mostly bluegill were caught but a few bass and tutles also found their way onto the kid’s line. We gave away awards to the kid’s who caught the most inches of fish. Craig and Jordan Moser did a phenomenal job providing lunch for the event. Other activities provided were lure design and the “Box of Mystery.” |
