Fall-Brawl Results

Oct 24th and 25th, 2009SMH Fall Brawl Tournament—Kinkaid Lake

The Shawnee Muskie Hunters Fall Brawl Tournament was once again a great success.  We had 41 teams participate, one of the best tournaments the club has ever put together.  Cool consistent weather greeted tournament anglers for the weekend.    Fishing proved to be slow but consistent with an even split of fish caught over the two day event.  13 fish were registered Saturday and 13 fish were registered Sunday.

The Shawnee Muskie Hunters would like to thank everyone for their outstanding participation and support of this event.   We look forward to meeting all of you again at one of our many future events.

May 1st and 2nd
Kinkaid Lake, IL

This weekend’s inclement weather did not scare off the avid Muskie Hunters that traveled from three different states to fish Southern Illinois’s famous Lake Kinkaid. The festivities started with registration and a Canadian Perch fish fry Friday evening at the Murphysboro Americas Best Value Inn. The skies where black and the wind took the top of the tent pavilion and sent it straight to Kentucky, but the rain held out till 10 p.m. that evening and everyone ate till their bellies were bulging with fried fish and cold beer.
The 7 a.m. start came around quick Saturday morning with 39 boats lined up and ready to go. The first days catch was much better than expected with 14 fish being caught in Cemetery Flats, Paul Ice, Hidden Neck and Johnson Creek area. The largest on Saturday was a 47.5 inch fat female taken mid day out of Hidden Neck by Craig Moser. Saturday evening the BBQ dinner and banquet was enjoyed by everyone with the biggest winner Paul Rinella taking home a trip to Lake of the Woods, Young’s Wilderness Lodge. Congratulations’ to Paul.
Sunday’s results where a little slower even with the sunshine mid day. Two nights of lighting and thunder slowed the bite. There were nine fish caught on Sunday with the tournament winners Randy and Kyle Hilger taking three fish within thirty minutes of Moon Set to win the tournament. Congratulations’ to team Hilger for a great Sunday performance to win the tournament. The big fish pot went to 12 year old Dustin Rametta, catching a 45 inch Muskie. Dustin has three fish in the 45 to 49 inch range as indicated by the hooks on his hat. A nice element of this tournament is anyone who catches a fish, is put into the pot for one of four $125 prizes. This keeps everyone’s focused to catch a single fish up to the closing bell. This year winners where, Ken Ryder, Corny Morgan, Walt Krause and Charlie Chiarolanza.
A special added note to this year’s tournament is two of the tournament participants helped a crappie fisherman land a 50 inch Muskie up by the dam on a crappie rod with 6 pound test and a crappie jig. Wow what a great experience for everyone involved.
Thanks again to everyone who attended the Spring Fling and to the Shawnee Muskie Hunters Chapter 28 club for their hard work making this a top notch tournament.
